Teaching Locally... REACHING GLOBALLY...

First Baptist is a Do Something Church
committed to serve the needs of our community.

We are glad you dropped by to check us out. We hope your
online experience will give you a taste of who we are and
why we love this church.

We hope to show God's love in such a way that people will exchange ordinary living for an extraordinary life through a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

As a church family, we are striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there is relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer and compassionate care for those in need. We would like to have a contagious faith that will influence and encourage our entire community.

Our church doors are wide open to people of all backgrounds regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. So, whether you are a spiritual seeker who is just starting to ask questions about God and faith, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at First Baptist.

We would love to have you visit.

As you get to know us, you'll find that we offer many kinds of ministries, but our "Three Big Priorities" are: 1) Sunday worship service; 2) Serving; and 3) Community Groups. If you only have time for a few things, we think these are the most important to helping you grow spiritually.

We are a Baptist Church, independent of a conference. We want to welcome you where you are, and will walk with you where God takes you. Our congregation has a good mixture of ages and interests with the same goal of knowing God and making Him known.

As a Do Something Church

We envision First Baptist as a church with members who love to learn, and are learning about the Bible; who live by what
they learn; who are able and willing to teach what they have learned; a church that is the Bible teaching and learning
center for Spencer.

We envision First Baptist as a missionary sending and missionary supporting church; a church that challenges its members to become missionaries; a church that provides mission experiences for its members; a church that engages in mission work both globally and locally.

We envision First Baptist as a place where; people practice, learn and teach wise financial stewardship and generous giving.

We envision First Baptist as a church that is true to the teachings of Scripture - biblically correct, but not necessarily
politically correct.

We envision First Baptist as a church that is a safe place for children and youth, where children and youth learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus by precept and example through teaching and personal mentoring; a church where children and youth are loved and cared for; a church that reaches out to minister to children and youth in the community.

We envision First Baptist as a church where members support one another, the ministries of the church, and the community with persevering prayer.

We envision First Baptist as a fellowship of Christians who are maturing in Christ and are experiencing accountability and encouragement in the context of deep personal relationships and replicating small groups.

Curt grew up just south of Spencer on a farm, He attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, then Northwestern College in Orange City before teaching 2nd Grade in Texas.  During the time in Texas the Lord confirmed his call be a pastor and Curt completed seminary at Sioux Falls Seminary.

This is my home church. I never thought I would come back, but I just know the Lord called Carolyn and I to come back here. Spencer is just a great town and such a good community to be a part of and live in.

I just want to serve the Lord well, and serve the people well. That has always been my heart.  It's a privilege to be here, it's a privilege to be a pastor and tell the good news about Jesus Christ.

Chuck started at First Baptist in June 2015. He grew up in Boone, IA. Chuck met his wife when they were neighbors in Boone and were married July 2012. He attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL; majoring in both Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies. Before coming to First Baptist Church, he was the Program Director at Pine Trail Camp in Saugatuck, MI.

Chuck and his wife have four young children, and live in Spencer. Chuck enjoys going to students' events, running, biking, ultimate Frisbee, and playing with his kids.

Sally grew up on a farm NE of Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School and Spencer School of Business. After several years of working for two counties and enjoying her years of being a stay-at-home mom, she is now enjoying being the Office Administrator here at FBC. Sally has a great husband, two wonderful adult married children and the two best grandchildren ever! She enjoys shopping for most anything, playing Scrabble (they don’t keep score), walking trails at parks in the summer, house plans, getting to know people, and much more. Mostly, she enjoys traveling to Indiana to see their kids. Two of her favorite verses are from Luke 24:23, “Because He lives I can face tomorrow…” and Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you…”
